I love a film that carries on after you’ve left the cinema, and Disclosure Day did exactly that. πΏ
At first glance, you’d think it’s another “aliens arrive and humanity has to work together” story. ππ½
It isn’t.
Instead… it’s about us. π
For years, science fiction has pushed the idea that discovering we’re not alone in the universe would unite humanity. We’d stop fighting each other because suddenly our differences would seem insignificant. π
Watching this in 2026… I’m not convinced. π¬
My partner and I were talking about it afterwards, and we both agreed that if tomorrow the world discovered intelligent alien life, I don’t think it would stop wars anymore. If anything, we’d probably just find new things to argue about. π€¦ββοΈ
β Who gets to speak to them?
π€ Can they be trusted?
π΅οΈ Who’s hiding information?
π° Who owns any new technology?
The film doesn’t pretend humans suddenly become better people. It suggests our biggest challenge isn’t making contact with another civilisation… it’s dealing with ourselves. πͺ
That’s what I loved most. β€οΈ
The film also doesn’t spoon-feed you every answer. Some people will probably find that frustrating π , but I enjoyed piecing everything together afterwards. It’s one of those films where the conversations on the drive home are almost as good as the film itself. ππ¬
Visually it’s stunning. β¨ The atmosphere keeps you hooked, and there’s a constant sense that something enormous is unfolding just out of reach. ππΈ Rather than relying on endless explosions and action scenes π₯, it builds tension through mystery and uncertainty.
My partner felt there were parts that weren’t explained clearly enough, and I can understand why. π€·ββοΈ It definitely asks the audience to fill in some of the gaps themselves. Personally, I quite like films that trust you to think. π§©
Overall, Disclosure Day isn’t really a film about aliens. π½
It’s a film about humanity. β€οΈπ
And, oddly enough, that’s what makes it feel believable.
β Final Rating: 8.5/10
πΏ Would I recommend it? Absolutelyβespecially if you enjoy thoughtful science fiction that leaves you thinking long after the credits roll. Just don’t expect every question to be answered for you. π
π¬ Have you seen it yet? Did you leave with answers… or even more questions? π
