Overthinking. Oversharing. Over it.

Being Ignored is Now My Superpower

I’ve realised something recently. πŸ’‘

One of the reasons I’ve created this website is because I’m used to being ignored.

That probably sounds sadder than I mean it to. πŸ˜…

I’m not talking about standing on tables demanding attention. Quite the opposite. I’ve never particularly enjoyed being the centre of attention. The idea of becoming some sort of influencer sounds exhausting.

I don’t want thousands of people analysing my life.

I don’t want to perform for an audience.

In fact, if I’m honest, I quite like being left alone. β˜•πŸ“š

But there’s a strange freedom that comes from spending enough years feeling slightly invisible.

You stop expecting an audience.

And when you stop expecting an audience, you become much less afraid of creating things. ✨

For years I had ideas floating around in my head.

Thoughts about films. 🎬

Places I’d visited. πŸ—ΊοΈ

History rabbit holes I’d disappeared into at 11pm. πŸ›οΈ

Food. 🍜

Work. πŸ’»

Life. 🌱

The weird process of getting older and slowly realising that absolutely nobody knows what they’re doing. πŸ˜‚

The problem is’t that I have nothing to say.

The problem is that I didn’t know where to put any of it.

Starting a website feels oddly vulnerable.

What if people disagree?

What if people think it’s boring?

What if nobody cares?

Then I realised something.

Nobody caring is actually my default setting. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I’ve spent forty-odd years quietly getting on with things without expecting a standing ovation.

So why was I suddenly worried about strangers on the internet?

The truth is, this website isn’t really for an audience.

It’s for me. πŸ’•

It’s somewhere to collect all the things that catch my attention before they disappear again.

A scrapbook for a brain that refuses to stick to one subject. πŸ“

One week it might be a film review. πŸŽ₯

The next week it might be an article about a ruined abbey. β›ͺ

Then a rant about hotel pillows. πŸ›οΈ

Then a guide to somewhere dog-friendly. πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί

Then a completely unnecessary deep dive into a topic that nobody asked me about. πŸ•³οΈπŸ‡

And that’s fine.

Not everything needs a strategy.

Not everything needs a target market.

Not everything needs to be monetised, optimised and turned into a personal brand. πŸ“ˆ

Sometimes it’s enough to make something because you enjoyed making it. ❀️

If people find it and enjoy it, that’s lovely.

If they don’t, I’ll probably still be here writing anyway. ✍️

After all, being ignored has given me something unexpectedly useful.

The freedom to create without worrying who’s watching. πŸ‘€
